3. Consistently good university results.

4. The biggest strength of the College is its highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated faculty who are deeply involved in their professional work. It has the reputation of being a good and committed institution which is striving for imparting quality education to the poor and the downtrodden population of adjoining areas for the past 50 years.

5. One of the oldest aided colleges of the region, very well connected by the road and the railway, and has a large catchment area. The college is successfully running UG and PG programs in various subjects of Arts, Science, Commerce and Agriculture science and catering to the needs of the rural based socially and economically weaker sections of the society.

6. All the benefits of government schemes relating to students (SC, ST, and OBC) are directly transferred to the students in a transparent manner.

7. Co-educational college.

8. Two separate units of NSS for girls and boys are presently being run in the college.

9. Playground with space for football, volleyball, badminton, running track, kabaddi and Kho-Kho.

10. Focus on personality development of each student through development of positive attitude, leadership qualities and self-awareness.

WEAKNESSES

.

1. Poor teacher: student ration due to non-recruitment of faculty and revision of sanctioned posts.

2. Shortage of funds for development and modernization of labs, library, classrooms and building.

3. The college has little academic autonomy .because all academic decisions are taken by M.J.P. ROHILKHAND UNIVERSITY, BAREILLY, As it is a degree awarding university for the college. College cannot take the final decision regarding any changes in curriculum, syllabus and evaluation system.

4. The college principal has limited financial power for purchase and other purposes.

5. Hostels for male-students, staff quarters, principal residence and guest house are not available in the campus.

6. Offices need to be equipped with computer networking and other modern office equipment.

OPPORTUNITIES

.

1. Being a Govt. aided institute, it provides education to meritorious students and the students of reserved categories at nominal fee. Thus providing an equal opportunity to the poor and socially disadvantaged section of the society.

2. Since the college is located in a rural area, surrounded by agricultural fields, there is a need to establish agro-based courses and research Centre.

3. The college has about 22 acres of land and stands a lot of chances for growth. The institute can use this land for the extension of building, construction of new classrooms, labs, separate PG block etc. for the students.

4. Around 90% of students are from rural areas who commute daily and face the hassle of public transport. The provision of college buses can be of great convenience to the students.

5. The students of this area have easy access to the institute and they prefer it because of well qualified staff, well stocked library, sports facilities. At present the college has an intake of approximately 3500 students which can be increased with the upgrading and modernization of infrastructure.

CHALLENGES

.

1. Paucity of physical infrastructure.

2. The lack of fresh recruitment of faculty forces the institute to employ guest faculty lecturers on hourly basis and their salaries are being paid from the management fund which can otherwise be used for development of the college and providing facilities to students.

3. Limitations and constraint in government financial support as well as in utilizing revenue of internal resource for better management and resource mobilization for uplifting the academic and students’ support facilities in college.

...

Title of the Practice: Empowerment of Women through Quality Education.

...

Goals:-

...

The college engages in women’s empowerment through education practices with the following objectives:

→ To enable students to appreciate and understand the essential role played by women in society and the work force.

→ To understand and address through counseling both academic and psychological problems faced by the students.

→ To create a friendly and conducive learning environment for the students.

→ To assess the needs of economically challenged students and first generation learners and help them to achieve their academic goals.

→ To motivate students to perform better through prizes.

The context:-

...

We believe that education is the most important tool for women’s empowerment. Educating a woman is equivalent to educating a family, and consequently the entire nation. Women have a significant contribution in the present workforce. Even as homemakers, they play an important role in educating their children and giving them a firm moral foundation. The college acknowledges the greater responsibility associated with women’s education and makes utmost effort not only to create an environment conducive to learning for all the students, but also to equip them with moral values and skills which will support and sustain them throughout life. As women from economically weaker sections of the society confront with greater difficulties in pursuing higher education, various supports are extended to them to realize their potential and fulfill their dream of establishing themselves as valuable members of society through quality education.

The Practice:-

...

The college takes the following steps towards the empowerment of women:

...

→ Though the college is not in a position to waive off the tuition fee and the examination fee of the students, the needy ones are given financial support by waiving of the development fees. Further, they are also supported financially through contributions from some of the teachers.

→ The Students’ Welfare Cell provides support and counseling on academic and psychological matters. The students are sometimes directed to organizations providing formal therapeutic help in such cases. They are encouraged to complete their education and become self-reliant.

→ Besides this, the students regularly seek personal advice on academic and psychological matters from the teachers of their departments. The teachers frequently remain present after class hours to provide such counseling. Such intra-departmental counseling has proved to be extremely effective in improving the academic performance as well as the emotional stability of the students.

→ The teachers also lend their maximum support to students who have to support their families.

→ The college has a healthy mix of students from all communities and backgrounds that learn to co-exist and work together in harmony. This promotes a sense of national integrity.

Evidence of Success

...

The quality education imparted by the college has resulted in it becoming one of the most sought after institutions of the surrounding area for higher studies. This is reflected in the increasing number of students admitted to the college each year. Over the years, many students have benefitted from these practices and have been able to successfully complete their education as a result. Moreover, our efforts have also made it possible for many students to tackle their personal and emotional problems and rise above them to carve out their individual identity.
